The Tech Career Accelerator Program is a 2-year program for students from underrepresented groups studying computer science at CUNY. The program creates a bridge between students’ junior and senior years in college and their first jobs in the tech sector by providing mentoring, career preparation, and internships.

TCAP Scholars receive:

  • One-on-one mentorship throughout their last two years in college
  • Interview opportunities for summer internships and full-time positions at NYC’s top tech companies (eBay, Goldman Sachs, Blue Apron, Foursquare, and more)
  • Quarterly professional development programming
  • Technical training on common industry technologies
  • Access to a community of support through TCAP and Code/Interactive’s network

Awesome! Who is eligible?

We are looking for students that:

  • Have at least 2.7 cumulative GPA
  • Are studying computer science, math, or related degree at CCNY or Lehman Colleges
  • Are interested in working as a software engineer or related field after graduating
  • Starting your junior year in the fall 2018 with an expected graduation date in 2020
  • Come from a family with annual income less than $75K/yr, and a member of a traditionally underrepresented group in the tech sector (women, African American, Latino)
  • Are eligible to work in the United States
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Ability to make specific program commitments (details here)

If you are unsure if you meet requirements, please still apply!

Can't wait! What can I expect?

After applying, we’ll have a small interview to get to know you better and ensure we pair you with a mentor you can connect with. Once selected for the program, you’ll participate in:

  • Weekly check-in with your mentee (email, text, video chat, phone call, whatever works)
  • In person meetup with your mentee once per month (coordinated with your mentee)
  • Attendance at the quarterly professional development program
  • Complete one technical course per semester through TCAP (think of this like an extra part-time class)
  • Applying to internships for summer of 2019 and full time roles after you graduate in 2020

The overall time commitment comes out to about one hour per week. Specific dates for the program can be found here.
