Have you ever participated in a marathon?
I just recently completed my first half-marathon, but never a full marathon yet.
Have you ever been part of the TCS New York City Marathon?
No. I tried for the past 2 years and seems like third time’s the charm.
Tell us what inspired you to run the Marathon this year on behalf of C/I.
I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, just with enough training and mental toughness, even though I actually quite dislike running. From the beginning of my training program, it has been as much a mental fight as a physical one. I decided to run the NYC marathon in particular because it is such an iconic race, and because it happens in the fall, so that I could train in good weather (sorry, Boston, that’s why you lost).
I decided to run on behalf of C/I because I was looking for an organization whose mission and activities truly resonated with me. Originally from rural Poland, I managed to come to US and graduate from Harvard thanks to the power of technology and the people who showed me that I could aim higher. I learned first-hand that access to a few key opportunities — and someone who believes in you — can go a long way, and C/I provides just that to the youth participating in its programs. I am proud to be able to support such an organization.
Can you tell us about your profession and your work?
I am an associate at a private equity firm in Boston, focusing on industrial and consumer/retail companies. On a day-to-day basis, I think about how different industries and businesses operate, and analyze their performance. I’m particularly passionate about automotive innovation (electrification, autonomous driving, etc.), and about all kinds of businesses that have a larger mission than just sales – businesses that try to solve real problems.
What are you looking forward to most about running 26.2 miles through the streets of NYC?
Finishing, and never having to run such a long distance again #BucketList
