The NYC Marathon is one of the biggest races in the world and our Team/Interactive athletes are just four days from the starting line. Our athletes are accomplishing their fundraising goals to support C/I students and to make educational opportunities in tech possible. You can help the Team/Interactive marathon team here.
Athlete: Tim Fasano

Hometown: New Haven, CT
Current City: Brooklyn, NYC
Who is the Marathon Sloth?
Like his running mascot the Sloth, Tim Fasano is a slow, steady, and unquestionably adorable Team/Interactive NYC Marathoner!
Tim is a Marketing and Automation Specialist at 2U. His company partners with top tier colleges and universities to create the world’s best online programs via cloud-based software-as-a-service platform. He learned about C/I through our program director, Tom O’Connell. Tim found Tom’s enthusiasm about C/I so contagious that he decided to join Team/Interactive to support NYC youth.
What Inspires You to Run for C/I?
C/I inspires students with the education they need to reach their potential as future tech professionals. As a tech professional, Tim sees the opportunities C/I is providing students as the best way to create change.
“I’m running for C/I because I love working in Tech and I hate to think that capable, energetic people are being deprived of an awesome job because they don’t have the opportunity to get the training they need.”
“I believe that access to educational and professional opportunities is the only thing that can create true equality in this country, and C/I is taking a huge step toward making that a reality. “
Overcoming Miles of Training and Trials
Tim has never run a road race before and certainly never run a marathon! He chose the NYC Marathon because he deeply believes in the mission of C/I. Running the NYC Marathon is a great opportunity for Tim to explore parts of the city he’s never seen before and support a really great cause.
The greatest training obstacle Tim has faced leading up to race day has been maintaining his discipline in training. Consistent runs and long miles can be difficult.
“I’m used to running for fun, so the idea that I had to do it, even when I didn’t want to, was a challenging one. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to a more leisurely pace.”
The best advice Tim has for C/I students about overcoming obstacles is to remember you don’t have to go it alone.
“If you find something challenging, don’t struggle alone – talk to a teacher, talk to a friend who gets it, go to an online message board, do anything you can to get help. People are willing to be there for you once you reach out to them and get their attention.”
Continuing to Make a Difference with C/I
Tim plans to stay involved with C/I by hosting company tours of 2U for students. He would also like to offer mentorship where he can.
“Tech wasn’t an obvious path for me, so I want to make sure kids know that there are opportunities like this out there.”
We are excited to have Tim on our 2014 NYC Marathon team and can’t wait to see him cross the finish line on Sunday! Help Tim make his marathon debut and support C/I students by contributing to his fundraise campaign! GO TIM GO!!!
