Career/Interactive Student: Richard Ortecho

January 13, 2015 by

My name is Richard Ortecho and I am a junior at Democracy Charter Prep High School.

What do you hope to gain in Career/Interactive internship?

By participating in Career/Interactive Internships, I hope to gain real professional experience within a career I wish to pursue after college. In addition, I hope to build connections with real programers and absorb all the knowledge I can.   I hope to gain more experience to put on my college application and successfully graduate from C/I with excellent coding skills.

Why should a company hire you?

A company should hire me because I am always self-determine in accomplishing my goals in a timely manner and am great at working in a professional environment. I also am an intermediate speaker in Korean and can assist with foreign affairs involving Korean import/export.

Three adjective describing yourself.

I would describe myself to be self-determination, intelligent/logical, and mature.  I feel that it is important to be self-determined and persevere through any challenge in order to live a well, successful life. I have been told that I am a very intellectual and logical person through peers and teachers. I feel this is true because I find reason and logic to be an important part of decision making.  As a young, high school student, I see myself to be very mature, I am focus in class and helpful to my fellow classmates.

How do you see coding to be valuable in your future?

I see coding to be extremely useful in my future because I have a great interest in computer science and hope to pursue a career in game design. I have always loved the idea of being able to be both logical and creative in my work.

What do you plan on studying in college?  (How can you use coding while doing that job?)

I plan on studying Computer Science/Programming and Game Software Design in college. I will certainly use coding in my field of study to make any game or webpage.

Share an experience from using HTML, CSS, or JavaScript? What excites or interests you about coding?

I have created a webpage called http://socialworkhelps.neocities.org/ where I encourage those who are going through depression to seek help from professionals as well as social workers. What excites me about coding is that I am telling a computer to do something. I find it amazing and unfathomable to me that I am able to do such a thing. Finishing a webpage with the coding I’ve done gives me the best feeling in the world.

Discuss your achievements, dreams, hopes and goals.

My biggest dream is to gain an internship at Google or at Ubisoft after or during my college years, then manage my own gaming company.
