C/I Hackathon at Fordham Foundry

May 12, 2015 by

Code/Interactive (C/I), a Bronx-based nonprofit that teaches underserved high school students how to code, is holding their final hackathon of the 2014-2015 school year on Saturday, May 30th at the Fordham Foundry, with tech sponsors like CartoDB, a tech mapping company.

Bronx, NY – May 30, 2015 – Code/Interactive third hackathon will allow students to use their tech and entrepreneurship skills to build tech projects with the help of volunteers. The event will run from 10am – 7pm at the Fordham Foundry Incubator, one of the only tech incubators in the Bronx.

The Fordham Foundry partners with Small Business Services of New York City to provide opportunities to solidify the Bronx as the next hub of growth and renewal in New York City. C/I is happy to announce our partnership with the Fordham Foundry as the non-profit in Residence for the 2015-2016 school year. C/I will be organizing monthly tech talks and social networking events for local high school students and Fordham computer science students. In addition, C/I will be hosting at least two hackathons at Fordham Foundry Incubator, providing an excellent opportunity to the students and the Bronx community.

During the hackathon over 100 of C/I’s students will present their software projects that they have developed while giving educators and developers a better sense of students’ digital education needs. C/I students will use their coding HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills, with advancing students learning Python, & jQuery while working with tech volunteers at our annual hackathon.

CartoDB will sponsor the event and provide a mapping workshop empowering high school students to bring awareness to issues around their communities. The workshop will teach C/I students to create interactive maps using CartoDB and how to connect data from other organizations to their maps.
