Crosby and Code A Recap

July 31, 2014 by

July 24th’s Crosby & Code event was billed as “A Party to Provide 75 Underserved NYC Kids With a One Year Scholarship to the C/I Code School” and it turned out to be so much more! Here are 4 highlights that will help to bring to life the incredible things that happened on the night.

1. THE VENUE WAS STUNNING & THE CROWD WAS EXQUISITE!

The Crosby Street Hotel hosted the evening between glorious textured wall paper and under glowing chandleries. Over 200 of NYC’s high profile leaders from tech, education, and media, sipped on signature cocktails, wine and beer graciously donated by our beverage sponsors One Hope WineTito’s Hand-Made Vodka, Jim Beam and Reeds Ginger Beer. The festivities were punctuated by phenomenal performances from American “Rockjazz” pianist ELEW and DJ Sean Glass. It truly was a night to remember filled with socializing and dancing.

2. WALL STREET JOURNAL MEETS C/I

Wall Street Journal’s Rebecca Bratburd joined us at the event to interview our Executive Director, Michael Denton and Alumni. She published an inspirational piece about C/I and how we plan to leave our footprint in the non-profit world and technology scene. Read the article here.

3. OUR FUNDRAISING WORLD

Thanks to our amazing lead sponsor 2U, an educational technology company that partners with universities to offer online degree programs

Thanks also to our other sponsors on the night including:
Deep Focus, True[X], Mashable & One Hope Wines

And finally, thank you to our sponsors who each sponsored a Full Year Scholarship to C/I’s program. They include:

Unmetric, Tumblr, Plated, The Feil Family Foundation, Stuart Satter, Tom Groos, Greg Gunn, Rottenberg Merrill, Craig Clemens, Joe Massoud, Josh & Stacey, Nikki Cohen, Brian Cohen, Missy Barth, Sharon Chang.

4. INSPIRATIONAL & EXCLUSIVE SCREENING OF FEATURE DOCUMENTARY “WEB”

Our VIP guests were also able to attend a private screening of critically acclaimed documentary WEB, Directed by Michael Kleiman and Produced by Michael Pertnoy. Following, was a Q&A session lead by CI’s board member and founder of Social Media Week Toby Daniels with the directors. During the Q&A with the Director, Producer and C/I’s Executive Director, the group all came to an agreement that providing access to technology is just one part of closing the opportunity gap while access to technology training is the vital next step as part of a larger solution.

Many thanks to C/I board members Matt Cohen and Toby Daniels and the Host Committee for organizing such an outstanding event. Looking forward to what we can achieve together in 2015!
WHAT’S NEXT?
For those who were not able to join the fun on the night and support, it’s not to late to support. We are only 19 scholarships away from our 75-scholarship goal and there is a simple way for you to help us get across the finish line. A sponsorship of $1,500 will directly support one student’s participation in C/I’s technology education program for one academic year. With your help, we can expand our influence by providing more students with access to computer science education. Help C/I fulfill its mission to inspire the next generation of tech leaders!
