Diverse Code/Interactive Students Are Ready To Intern at Top Tech Companies

A Four Week Summer Internship Influences C/I’s Students College Education and Career Path

May 13, 2016 — New York, NY — Today’s tech industry buzz on increasing diversity in the tech field, has a solution by supporting the next generation of diverse technology leaders through Code/Interactive’s (C/I) organization. C/I is a non-for-profit organization is actively creating diversity in the tech industry by providing computer science education to diverse high schools all across New York City and placing the highest performing students in paid summer tech internships.

Companies like Gust, Business Insider,, The New York Times, and more, have hosted a C/I intern for a summer internship, giving them the hands-on work experience for a future career in tech. By giving a C/I student the opportunity to utilize their front-end coding, prototyping, software testing, and leadership skills, companies are influencing a student’s college education and career trajectory to become a diverse technology professional and entrepreneur. C/I student, Irving Perez stated, “My main goal is to help people through the products I produce.”

Irving Perez was recently accepted Google’s Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) and will be attending Brandeis University on a full four-year scholarship to study computer science through the Posse Foundation. The opportunity to intern last summer at Business Insider was an invaluable and formative experience that contributed to his achievements and helped him to forge his path.

Other students, like Toyin Robinson and SM Mashuque, along with many others, have shared their experience from having no computer science background to interning at tech companies to enhance their coding skills. Now, graduating students are excited to pursue computer science education in college, thanks to their experience with C/I’s program and their internship experience.

Code/Interactive. C/I is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to inspire the next generation of diverse technology leaders from low-income communities. C/I equips students—male and female, from diverse ethnic backgrounds—with the necessary technical and social skills to pursue high-paying jobs in the 21st-century economy. Founded in 2001, our three scaffolded programs provide students from low-income communities with computer science education, entrepreneurial mentorship and career-readiness training.
